Jimboy’s Tacos has signed a franchise development agreement that will expand the brand’s presence in Southern California by 20 units. The first opening this winter will be followed shortly after by more unit activations around Orange County, where the company currently operates two restaurants.
The franchise group All American Taco Company is leading the Southern California expansion and plans to open future stores in locales such as Huntington Beach, Brea and Costa Mesa.
Jimboy's is already a bit of a household name in Northern California, where the brand has had solid footing since the early 1950s. The company's Southern California development is the first step in strategic national expansion plans, with all new locations modeled around an updated prototype featuring a contemporary twist on 1950s car culture. The restaurant will incorporate retro design elements, natural wood, digital menu boards, historical prints and stainless-steel finishes that mimic the food trailer from which the first tacos were served.
"While continuing to pay homage to our roots, we have elevated the brand and are focusing on what makes Jimboy’s one of a kind — our tacos," CEO Bob Andersen said in the release.
The brands expansion ambitions have led to a push to recruit more franchisees to help with growth on the West Coast and Sun Belt regions of the U.S. Both of these areas have been identified as prime markets for the concept, which requires a relatively small footprint, allowing consideration for a larger number of restaurant placement opportunities. The brand currently has 38 locations throughout California and Nevada.
