KC grocery-shoppers dip into Dunkin'

July 18, 2017

Under the title of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," comes Dunkin' Donuts, which has partnered with national grocer Price Chopper to put Dunkin' offerings in three Kansas City-area supermarkets, a news release said.

With their prepared meal offerings, grocery concepts have been stealing chunks of business from traditional quick-serve restaurant brands, particularly since the start of this year. Dunkin' Donuts, which has long had a practice of opening in nontraditional sites, will launch the first of its three grocery locations on July 26 at a Price Chopper in the Kansas City suburb of Paola, Kansas.

Price Chopper will own and operate all three locations, two of which are slated to open later this year at metro-area supermarkets in Spring Hill and Bonner Springs, Kansas.

"We are continuously seeking new and innovative ways of bringing our signature coffees and baked goods to our guests with a level of satisfaction and convenience that Dunkin' Donuts is known for, and we are looking forward to working with Price Chopper on this new venture," Chris Burr, Dunkin' director of nontraditional development, said in the release.

Dunkin' Donuts is aiming for overall growth to a total of 17,000 outlets in the U.S., including more than 750 alternative sites in places such as college campuses, hotels, travel centers and military bases. Currently, the chain has more than 200 such locations nationally.
