KFC's name has gotten pulled into the news coverage of the investigation around the three men authorities think killed eight people and injured many more at the London Bridge last Saturday, according to numerous news media. Newsweek reports that authorities in London believe the three planned the ISIS-claimed attack in a KFC there and/or possibly during all-male swim sessions at a London pool.
The suspected leader of the trio, Khuram Butt, 27, reportedly worked at an East Ham KFC outlet as an office administrator between 2012 and 2015. Another member of the trio, Rachid Redouane, 30, regularly ate at that location, where the third man, Youssef Zaghba, 22, reportedly worked in 2016, the article said.
KFC told Newsweek it has no record of Zaghba working at that location, owned by Franchisee Auriga Holdings. Another suspected location for the plot is a swimming session for Muslim men at a leisure center near the same area, where Butt and Redouane regularly attended on Sundays with other mostly Muslim men.
The trio reportedly drove a rental van across London Bridge into pedestrians Saturday night, then left the van and slashed bystanders with machetes in Borough Market. Police killed all three men at the scene but are continuing to investigate the incident.
