KFC China has launched its first plant-based product in that sprawling nation in its so-called "Renewable Energy Nuggets." The Chinese KFC stores are marketing the new nuggets as being a blend of nature and technology, according to a report in China's Tech City News.
KFC worked with American food supplier, Cargill, to develop the plant-based "chicken" nugget for China, while here in the states, the brand has tested a plant-based nugget produced by Beyond Meat. The Chinese version of the product will test in a number of cities there beginning in the next week.
In the U.S., KFC first tested its Beyond Meats "chicken" in Atlanta last August, followed by a reintroduction that was centered in Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee from late January to Feb. 23, just before the pandemic took hold in the U.S. QSRweb has a follow-up question in to KFC to find out more about both the U.S. and Chinese products and their continuation.
