KFC fires up new spicy grilled wing promo

January 5, 2010

KFC has introduced its new Fiery Grilled Wings with several promotional campaigns including a sweepstakes aimed at college basketball fans.

Promotions for the new Fiery Grilled Wings include:
  • Downloadable coupon: Consumers can download a coupon from the company's Web site for a bucket of 30 Fiery Wings for $19.99. The coupon offer began Dec. 28 with the launch of the new grilled wings and is good through Feb. 21.
  • KFC Wingatology Sweepstakes: Consumers who pay for any KFC purchase with a valid Visa credit or debit card will automatically be entered in a sweepstakes for a trip for two to a college basketball conference tournament game. The grand prize winner also will receive a trip for two to ESPN Headquarters to meet sportscaster Jay Bilas and watch the ESPN Bracketology special live in studio; a gift card for $2,000 toward a large-screen TV, $500 in KFC gift checks and $3,000 cash.
  • Fire Hydrant sponsorship: In the spirit of last year's pothole sponsorship program, KFC is offering to pay for new fire extinguishers and fire hydrants in three cities in exchange for branding the equipment with Fiery Grilled Wings logos. KFC has already paid for repairs for 85 fire hydrants in the town of Brazil, Ind., located 60 miles east of Indianapolis. The campaign is intended to raise awareness about the danger of residential fires and to promote the brand's new menu offering, said Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC. KFC has issued an open offer to mayors nationwide, asking them to describe their need for fire extinguishers and hydrants in their community.
