KFC franchisee settles religious discrimination suit

A KFC franchisee in Laurinburg, N.C., will pay $40,000 to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit that was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. According to the Middle East North Africa Financial Network, Scottish Food Systems and Laurinburg KFC Take Home are based in Laurinburg, N.C., and jointly operate a KFC restaurants in North Carolina.

The suit was brought forth by Sheila Silver, who converted to Pentecostalism in 2010. As part of this religion, she has not worn pants since the conversion.

The EEOC's complaint alleged that the companies informed Silver she must wear pants because of their dress code policy. According to the EEOC, the companies eventually fired her for not wearing pants.
