KFC helps consumers sport their political preference

June 17, 2008

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just in time for the presidential election, KFC is selling fun political T-shirts allowing consumers a chance to announce their left-wing or right-wing preference. Available in three designs that include a subtle retro image of KFC's founder and wing expert, Colonel Harland Sanders, the shirts offer something for everyone:
  • Red "Right Wing" shirts for Republicans
  • Heathered blue "Left Wing" shirts for Democrats
  • White shirts with the statement "Left Wing, Right Wing: Tastes the Same to Me" for undecided voters.
KFC will sell the T-shirts on www.kfc.com. Additionally, boutiques in the presidential candidates' home states — Akira in Chicago, Divaz Boutique in Tempe, Ariz., and Grand Central Clothing in Tucson, Ariz.— also will sell the Political T's. The shirts were distributed coast-to-coast to Young Republicans and Young Democrats of America.

Proceeds from all shirts sold will benefit KFC Colonel's Scholars, a charitable program providing students nationwide with much-needed college scholarships. Now in its third year, Colonel's Scholars benefits high school seniors who demonstrate success in the classroom and financial need. Each year, a group of 50 or more students each will be eligible to receive up to $20,000 over four years to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited public university within their home state. In 2008, 100 students received scholarships from Colonel's Scholars. To get more information on Colonel's Scholars, visit www.kfcscholars.org.
