KFC hometown plans Sanders' statue
October 28, 2009
Corbin, Ky., home of the first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, is hoping to focus more on that history, according to a story by The Times-Tribune in Corbin. Sanders Cafe and Museum is located in the town and shares the history of the restaurant where the late Col. Harlan Sanders developed his secret recipe.
Proposals made at a Corbin Tourism Commission meeting include creating a statue of the chain's founder and erecting directional signs leading to Sanders Cafe and the first KFC, located just outside city limits.
From The Times-Tribune:
"It's high time that we capitalized on his reputation," (commission chairwoman Suzie Razmus) said, adding that the Corbin Main Street Design Committee received written approval from Yum Brands for the city to construct a statue of the Colonel's likeness.
