Pickles are having their day, and KFC wants in on the action before anything goes sour, introducing what it calls a "very limited-time" item — pickle- fried chicken. The KFC pickle-sauced, Extra Crispy Chicken will land on the men next week, but each restaurant will only have enough ingredients to pickle sauce its chicken for a few weeks, and then it's just a tangy memory.
KFC said the item is its response to pickle-passionate fans "who have begged for more pickles on their Crispy Colonel Sandwich."
"People are crazy about pickles, and pickle-flavored products are becoming today's trendiest menu item," KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky, said in the release. "Pickles and fried chicken are a match made in heaven, with taste-makers everywhere pairing these flavors. Our guests have been clamoring for more ... so we're giving them what they want by coating our Extra Crispy Chicken with a mouthwatering pickle sauce that delivers a crave-able punch of pickle in every bite."
In addition to classic dill and vinegar flavors, the sauce features onion and garlic notes, buttermilk and a white- and black-pepper blend.
The LTO follows the launch of the Crispy Colonel Sandwich, which is now available in Pickle Fried Chicken, along with Smoky Mountain BBQ, Nashville Hot and Georgia Gold honey mustard BBQ.
Pickle-fried is also available as Extra Crispy Tenders, Chicken Littles and Extra Crispy chicken starting Monday, June 25, until supplies run out, according to the chain.
