KFC launches second interactive TV ad

September 6, 2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Fried Chicken has created another interactive advertising campaign to promote its latest Snacker sandwich, the Ultimate Cheese KFC Snacker.

In February, KFC aired a new spot promoting the launch of the Buffalo KFC Snacker. It offered a $1 coupon for one of the sandwiches to those who can spot a message embedded in the ad. The secret word, "buffalo," appeared about a tenth of a second. At the time, advertising experts praised KFC for finding a way to reach users digital video recorders who typically skip past commercials. Since then, other major brands – like Sprite soft drinks – have adopted similar ads that encourage viewers to "pause" the ad and watch it.

KFC's new spots take a similar approach in the chain's first interactive ad. The message, "What do you put on your sandwich during rush hour?" is hidden in the ad. According to a news release, consumers who find it will have a chance to try the new Snacker for free.

KFC said consumers can review the TV ad at KFC.com and receive coupons for the new menu item. The advertisement will run nationally Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 on primetime NBC during the Sunday football kick-off, on the CBS, ABC and FOX networks, and during WWE programming on UPN.
