KFC pops up puffy new store in Portland

December 21, 2016

KFC in Portland, Oregon, is taking the whole idea of the pop-up store to its most literal conclusion today when the chain "pops up" what is expected to be the world's first inflatable KFC. The hot air should start flowing soon, since the plan is to have the new float-acious version of the franchise filled to capacity and open at 5 p.m. Pacific time in the city's Pioneer Square, according to a local Portland news outlet

Pioneer Square is Portland's big meetup site, and currently also the home of the city's "Holiday in the Mall" series. Likewise, Portland has claimed the title of the nation's street food capital, so both of those factors lend themselves to the offbeat nature of the opening as well as its overall marketing punch.

KFC is not saying much about its "airy" new idea, only posting what looks like a black-and-white photo of the inflatable store-to-be on its Facebook page, but nothing has been released to detail what this new fluffy fried chicken manifestation is all about.

QSRweb.com has an inquiry in to parent company, Yum Brands, for further information and will report back when and if we hear a response from the company.
