KFC promos grilled chicken with penny-per-calorie price

November 30, 2009

KFC is promoting its Kentucky Grilled Chicken as a low-calorie value option with a 395-calorie KGC meal for $3.95.

The 395-calorie KGC meal features a grilled chicken drumstick and thigh plus green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy.

The advertising campaign to support the launch of the 395-calorie meal showcases competitors' options and points out that the 395-calorie KGC meal is a great choice for calorie-conscious consumers. The commercials compare the KGC 395-calorie meal to a Dunkin' Donuts Honey Bran Raisin Muffin, a McDonald's Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich and Snack Size Fruit & Walnut Salad, and a Subway 6-inch B.M.T. sandwich.

The Kentucky Grilled Chicken line, launched in April, has been named the "Most Memorable New Product Launch" of 2009 in a survey conducted by Schneider Associates, IRI and Sentient Decision Science. KFC last topped the most memorable list in 2006 with the launch of the KFC Famous Bowl.
