KFC teams up with Internet-dating site

February 6, 2006

KFC teamed up with an Internet-dating site, PerfectMatch.com, for a very unique promotion. KFC spokesperson Laurie Schalow said KFC wondered what daters really want on the day of love.

"Are they (daters) tired of stuffy restaurants with unidentifiable dishes?" she said. "Do they crave a night at home with their honey and a meal of comfort food? What foods put people in a romantic mood?"

The companies polled more than 300,000 men and women. According to a news release, 60 percent preferred a quiet night at home enjoying good (and simple) food over a glamorous night out at a fancy restaurant as their idealValentine's Day date.

The poll also targeted consumers' desire to eat chicken on Valentines. More than 66 percent of respondents opted for the crispy chicken as an aphrodisiac they might actually like to eat, compared to oysters and other allegedly romantic fare.  The poll found 72 percent of respondents would select a comfort food eater if they could choose their Valentine's date based off of what type of food they ordered.

"At the core of making your perfect match is finding someone with similarinterests, styles and values," said Pepper Schwartz, PerfectMatch.comand author of Finding Your Perfect Match. "To put love on the menu, look for someone that shares your tastes, passions and spice for life."

The KFC-PerfectMatch.com report, "A Bucket of Chicken Might Pave Way to Buckets of Love This Valentines Day," was released Feb. 7. The release recommended consumers enjoy KFC chicken this Valentine's Day, but did not indicate a pricing promotion.
