KFC to swap vuvuzelas for free Doublicious

July 8, 2010

KFC has launched its latest marketing stunt to promote its newest offering. As the company repurposes its infamous Double Down into the Doublicious sandwich, it is inviting World Cup soccer fans to trade in their vuvuzelas for a free sandwich.

In an open letter addressed to owners of vuvuzelas — plastic blowing horns that filled the air of the eight South African soccer stadiums with their loud, distinctive monotone note — KFC wants to comfort saddened U.S. soccer fans with the new sandwich.

The first 500 U.S. residents who mail their vuvuzelas to KFC Headquarters by July 15, 2010, will receive a $5 KFC gift check for the new Doublicious sandwich.

The Doublicious features a boneless chicken filet on a sweet Hawaiian Bread bun. The Original Recipe Doublicious includes an Original Recipe filet topped with bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce. The Grilled Doublicious is a grilled filet topped with Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce and honey mustard BBQ sauce. The new sandwich is featured in a $5 Box, which includes a drink and a side item.

The address for U.S. residents to mail in their vuvuzelas is:

KFC Corporate Headquarters
Attention: Vuvuzela Exchange Program
1900 Colonel Sanders Lane
Louisville, KY 40213
