KFC is planning on opening more than 40 new restaurants in the United Kingdom and Ireland this year, a move that would create about 1,600 new jobs, according to the Guardian. KFC made its debut in Britain in 1965.
The company plans to spend about £40M (about $60.75 million U.S.) on the expansion.
Additionally, another £40m is planned for the remodel of 160 existing restaurants to "create a more modern, welcoming environment for customers."
With this announcement, KFC will have nearly 900 restaurants in the U.K. and Ireland by year's end.
