KFC, in conjunction with Blessings in a Backpack, is hitting the road to feed families in need with the KFC Sharemobile, a holiday-edition charitable food truck. KFC and its franchisees are expected to provide nearly 70,000 meals to kids and families in need this holiday season, according to a press release.

The mobile unit with delivery meals to families in three cities, Chicago, Orlando and Houston, beginning Dec. 5. KFC will also surprise families with special gifts targeted to address specific needs identified by their respecting schools.

"Sharing a meal with family or friends is a special part of the holidays," Nick Chavez, CMO of KFC U.S., said in the press release. "Alongside our franchisees, we wanted to make that possible for even more families this holiday season. Together with Blessings in a Backpack, we're taking the Sharemobile on the road to do just that."

KFC has partnered with Blessings in a Backpack since 2017, donating nearly $1 million to the nonprofit in recent years. KFC employees at its Louisville, Kentucky headquarters volunteer weekly to provide and physically package more than 300 meals for local students to take home for the weekend.

"The generous donations from KFC could not have come at a better time, as these communities have been particularly hard-hit this year with rising food costs, inflation and various natural disasters," Erin Kerr, CEO of Blessings in a Backpack, said in the release. "Because of KFC's support, we're able to spread holiday cheer by donating meals for hunger-free weekends and meet each community's needs."
