Krispy Kreme brings its 'kleinuhringurs' to Iceland

October 6, 2016

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. is moving into the land of fairies and thermal spas under an agreement with the group Hagar verslainr ehf in Iceland, according to a news release. The first of five Krispy Kreme shops will open in Reykjavik on Nov. 5.

"We are excited to bring the joy that is Krispy Kreme doughnuts to Iceland with a very knowledgeable partner," said International Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Senior Vice President and President Dan Beem, in a news release. "The unique hot original glazed doughnut provides an experience unlike any other."

According to the release, Hagar verslainr ehf is a leading retailer in Iceland with core activities in the grocery sector, including the popular Hagkaup stores.

Iceland will be the 29th country for the Krispy Kreme chain, which boasts 1,100 Krispy Kreme shops around the world.

In case you were wondering, Google translator says the Icelandic word for doughnut is "kleinuhringur," which sounds about right, but probably actually means something completely different.
