August 24, 2011

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation is expanding in Japan. The company signed new development agreements with its franchisee, Krispy Kreme Doughnut Japan Co. Ltd., to build 73 new locations in the Kanto, Kansai and Chubu regions throughout the next five years.

Krispy Kreme Japan Co. Ltd. has been the company's franchise partner since 2006.

"They are an outstanding operator, and we look forward to a continued association with them as they share the one-of-a-kind Krispy Kreme experience with consumers in Japan," said Jeff Welch, Krispy Kreme president, International.

The latest agreements, together with a new commitment for 70 additional stores by the chain's franchisee in Mexico, will add 143 new Krispy Kreme stores to its international portfolio within the next five years, Welch added.

Krispy Kreme currently includes more than 650 stores in 21 countries.
