Long John Silver's once had 1000-plus restaurant locations across the United States. That number has now declined to slightly less than 500, according to a new article in Inc.

In June, the privately held company issued franchise disclosure documents that highlight the chains trajectory. According to the article, six franchisees opted not to renew their agreements while another 19 "left the system for undisclosed reasons." Six corporate-owned locations also were closed.

In the article, Long John Silver's spokesperson Laura Ellis said the company closures are not a reflection of a struggling brand.

"Long John Silver's has delivered 16 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth, remodeled more than 115 restaurants, has approximately 100 additional remodels planned over the next two years, and continues to expand its footprint with new restaurant openings in markets across the country," Ellis said in the article.

To date, the chain now has 479 locations and in 2025 opened restaurants in Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Kentucky.
