Los Angeles Dunkin' promotion puts Starbucks in the crosshairs

December 11, 2018

It's no secret that Greater Los Angeles is one heated QSR market, so it might be little surprising that Dunkin' is resorting to some pretty tricky tactics to draw customers from what may be its biggest competitor, Starbucks. Starting this week, Dunkin' in Greater Los Angeles is inviting Starbucks customers to get a free small latte or espresso by presenting a Starbucks app at the Dunkin' ordering counter through Dec. 16, a news release said.

Then, from Dec. 17 - Jan. 20, those who show the Starbucks app on their phones at Dunkin' will also receive a $2 medium latte or espresso drink at Greater Los Angeles/Orange County locations of the QSR chain. A big part of this promo is of course, focused squarely at stealing the competition's business, but perhaps an equally hefty focus is to make Starbucks customers aware of Dunkin's recently introduced high-end espresso equipment, which the chain says has "optimal espresso bean extraction," for stronger, richer drinks.
