Man arrested in Dunkin' Donuts gift-card scam
August 6, 2008
The Boston Globe:Police charged Kevin Nguyen, 24, of Dorchester, Mass., with larceny over $250 as a suspect in a $100,000-plus scheme using stolen credit-card numbers to boost balances on Dunkin' Donuts gift cards. Police also are looking for his sister and suspect others were involved in the scheme.
Police said stolen credit-card numbers were used to boost the balance of Dunkin' Donuts gift cards up to the $200 maximum, and the suspects would use the gift cards to buy products and then resell them at local shops.
Police were alerted to the scheme by Dunkin' Donuts executives, who grew suspicious of the high number of gift-card purchases at the Brighton store.
