McDonald's will expand its McValue menu starting April 21, adding a tier of items priced under $3 and a new breakfast meal deal at participating U.S. restaurants, according to a press release.

The updated menu includes at least 10 items available throughout the day. Breakfast options priced under $3 include the Sausage McMuffin, Sausage Biscuit, Sausage Burrito, hash browns and medium coffee. For lunch and dinner, the under $3 category features the McChicken, McDouble, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries and medium soft drinks.

"For generations, McDonald's has been committed to delivering great value our fans can count on," Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer for McDonald's USA, said in the press release. "As our customers' expectations evolve, we're making it easier for them to get the value they're looking for – on their terms. McValue offers more choice, more flexibility and more ways to build a meal that fits their day and budget."

The company is also introducing a $4 breakfast meal deal that includes a choice of a Sausage McMuffin or Sausage Biscuit, served with hash browns and a small coffee. This joins existing lunch and dinner meal deals, which offer a McChicken for $5 or a McDouble for $6, paired with four-piece nuggets, small fries and a small drink.

Throughout the year, the chain plans to feature limited-time national discounts on specific items from the under $3 menu. The first promotions will offer the Sausage McMuffin for $1.50 and the McDouble for $2.50.

"Value at McDonald's isn't a moment — it's a journey we've been building together over time," Scott Rodrick, a McDonald's owner and operator, said in the press release. "This next evolution of McValue builds on what fans already love, and as franchisees, we're excited to offer fans more options that fit their lives, routines and budgets."

Price is dependent on location. Ninety-five percent of McDonald's approximately 13,500 U.S. restaurants are owned and operated by independent business owners.
