McDonald's Canada exec selected to lead Japan system

August 29, 2013

Earlier this week, McDonald's Holdings Co. Ltd., the chain's Japanese parent company, named Sarah Casanova as its new CEO and president. She replaces Eiko Harada, who has been in the position since 2005.

According to Reuters, Casanova has worked with McDonald's Corp. for 22 years. Her appointment comes after months of declining sales in Japan. Its shares have dropped nearly 7 percent since the beginning of August.

Casanova's appointment is an effort to bring in new managerial talent, Harada said in a statement.

McDonald's Japan is 49.9 percent owned by McDonald's Corp.
