McDonald's relatively new CEO, Chris Kempczinski, is continuing to take a direct-to-employees approach in his leadership of the gigantic chain, offering another open letter to employees as the new year starts and inviting McDonald's workers everywhere to connect with him on his new Instagram account, @ChrisK_McD.

Since Kempczinski first was named to the role Nov. 3 last year, following former CEO Steve Easterbrook's relinquishment of the job after he admitted to policy-forbidden relationship with another McDonald's employee, Kempczinski has held numerous forums with the chain's rank and file. Some of those efforts included a November town hall meeting, in-person meetings with market managing directors and the leadership of International Development License markets, in-person town halls with U.K.- and Germany-based employees, and a November survey which the brand told this website provided insights from more than 1,000 employees.

To kick off 2020, he delivered with a message of congratulations to the brand's entire workforce, which he said now serves more than 65 million customers, on average, daily. He also said he has been actively listening to employees' thoughts and other feedback for more than two months and, as a result, identified three ways the brand change the world for the better:

  • Creating opportunity for workers.
  • Building community around stores.
  • Collaborating on solutions for benefits industry-wide.

Kempczinski called the three actions/qualities areas for McDonald's employees to champion and "apply them more evenly … to be even stronger."
