McDonald's CEO says corporate layoffs are coming

January 9, 2023

McDonald's is planning some corporate job cuts, according to a CNN report. The Chicago-based burger chain will let employees know by April 3.

"We will evaluate roles and staffing levels in parts of the organization and there will be difficult discussions and decisions ahead," Kempszinski said in a memo to staff last Friday. "Certain initiatives will be de-prioritized or stopped altogether. This will help us move faster as an organization, while reducing our global costs and freeing up resources to invest in our growth."

McDonald's will also accelerate its restaurant opening in response to increased customer demand.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kempszinski said the layoffs are a result of faster and more efficient operations.

"Some jobs that are existing today are either going to get moved or those jobs may go away," Kempczinski told the news outlet.

CNN reports that McDonald's has around 200,000 corporate jobs but declined to say how many positions could be cut.
