McDonald's comps up in March

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Same-store sales for McDonald's Corp. restaurants worldwide increased 8.2 percent in March and are up 6.3 percent for the quarter, the company announced.
 
Global systemwide sales for McDonald's restaurants increased 12.7 percent in March and 10.3 percent for the first quarter.
 
"Our ongoing business momentum continues to reflect the benefit of combined initiatives under McDonald's Plan to Win," said McDonald's chief executive officer Jim Skinner. "Our top-line results are a testament to the collective strength of our relevant menu, innovative marketing and convenience and value strategies."
 
McDonald's U.S. restaurants posted a 6.2 percent same-store sales gain in March. New products such as the Snack Wrap are helping to drive performance, the company said.
 
In Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa, comps rose 9.6 percent in March, fueled by strong performance in Japan and China. European comps rose 11.2 percent.
