McDonald's today confirmed that the brand is testing two new chicken sandwiches at locations in Houston and Knoxville, Tennessee, starting today and running through Jan. 26. Though the brand remained a bit cryptic about the test and how the results will be used, it is creating quite a stir on social media where fast food chicken sandwiches are all the rage.

"We certainly meant no beef when we hinted at a new menu item arriving in some of our restaurants," said a McDonald's spokesperson in a statement released this morning confirming the buzz on the brand's Twitter channel. "It's true, we're testing two new chicken sandwiches at participating restaurants in the Houston, Texas and Knoxville, Tennessee areas.

"The crispy chicken sandwich and the deluxe crispy chicken sandwich will be tested, beginning Dec. 2 through Jan. 26, 2020. Houston and Knoxville are getting a sneak peek. Everyone else should stay tuned for what's to come in 2020."

The crispy chicken sandwich is a fried chicken filet served on a potato roll, described to be "sweet and butter-y" and then topped with more butter and crinkle-cut pickles. The deluxe version of that sandwich includes the filet and roll, along with tomatoes, lettuce and mayo, the spokesperson said in an email.

With the recent big chicken sandwich wins by competing brands like Popeye's and Chick-fil-A, McDonald's customers and franchisees have been pining for the Golden Arches' take on the subject. No further details about test results or plans to extend the sandwich in a larger geographical area were available.
