McDonald's has donated $3.1 million in food for U.S. communities, equaling nearly 3 million pounds of food, including dairy, beef, produce, fruit and bakery items, a news release said.
McDonald's said its working to ensure excess food and ingredients from menu items originally destined for its restaurants will now help feed the nation's communities. It has partnered with Food Donation Connection and local charities to distribute the products to charities, food banks and others in need nationally.
Included in the donations are more than 1.2 million pounds of beef, 1.1 million pounds of dairy items, 433,000 pounds of bakery goods, 62,000 pounds of fresh produce and more than 52,000 pounds of granola and other ingredients.
"During this unprecedented time, McDonald's is guided by the belief that we are all in this together. Our system is responding in big and small ways to help our customers, including donating food to those in need." said Marion Gross, chief supply chain officer, North America, in the release. "We're here to serve communities — that has been our guiding compass for the past 65 years and remains at the heart of everything we do, now more than ever."
