McDonald's employee money management tool a success

August 11, 2009

McDonald's financial literacy program for its restaurant-level employees has proven to come at just the right time in light of economy, according to a story in The Chicago Sun. The program was launched in December 2008 by McDonald's and Visa and received more than 25,000 page views of its online resource center in the first few months.

Developed by Naperville, Ill.-based financial education consultant Wealth Watchers, the money management program includes a printed Wealth Watchers budgeting guide to track expenses as well as access to an instructional DVD and online resource center. The materials, which are based on Visa's free "Practical Money Skills for Life" financial education program, are available in both English and Spanish.

The company told The Sun that it hopes the program will encourage employee participation other programs, including its retirement savings plan that offers crew members a 7 percent match in its 401(k).
