BRUSSELS, Belgium — McDonald's Europe launched the McPassport, an initiative to support the movement of McDonald's restaurant employees throughout the European Union.
The McPassport is an official certification of the training and skills that employees have acquired while employed by McDonald's. The McPassport will be open to any McDonald's restaurant employee who wishes to move within the EU and who meets required performance levels.
McDonald's said the McPassport has been welcomed by the European Commission within the context of the European Year of Workers' Mobility.
With more than 225,000 employees from the 25 Member States eligible for the McPassport, the program is unprecedented in its scale and ambition.
"The McPassport initiative underlines our commitment to continuous improvement and to making a job at McDonald's as fulfilling and rewarding as possible," said Denis Hennequin, president of McDonald's Europe "The McPassport will be a key element of our continuing effort to improve our standards as an employer.
"We believe the McPassport will strengthen our reputation by providing the type of innovative and long-term development opportunities that young people are increasingly looking for."
