McDonald’s eyes big expansion in China

May 1, 2011

The quick-service offerings in China have been dominated by Yum! Brands' KFC and Pizza Hut brands. But it's about to get a bit more crowded following the announcement last week that McDonald's plans to open 700 new stores there by 2013.

MarketWatch reported the expansion plan; the company's largest in China thus far. It will bring McDonald's total units to 2,000.

The growth will come with a job boost of 50,000 new positions, including 1,000 management spots.

China is McDonald's current focal point, as the company is expanding faster there than in any other market in the world.

Yum! Brands has 3,800 total units in China and has attributed business in the country to recent upward sales trends.
