McDonald's gets an October boost

November 7, 2010

McDonald's Corp. today announced its global comparable sales increased 6.5 percent in October.

Broken down, sales were up 5.6 percent in the United States; 5.8 percent in Europe; and 5.3 percent in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

Sales in the U.S. got a bump from the return of Monopoly. Core products, including Chicken McNuggets, McGriddles, Big Mac and McCafe beverages were also key components in the month's performance.

In Europe, France, the United Kingdom and Russia turned in strong numbers as the company's focus was on reimaged, updated restaurants.

APMEA sales were fueled by growth in Japan, China and Australia.

For the month, systemwide sales increased 7.4 percent.

These numbers come on the heels of McDonald's Corp.'s third quarter report in late October, which included the company's highest stock to date and an earnings increase of 12 percent.
