McDonald's famous ribless McRib sandwich is not only back Wednesday but the brand is hoping it literally pleases the hair right off of the faces of all those who've grown a face-full of beards during the pandemic. To incentivize customers to shave and make way for the sauce-slathered creation, it's promising to give free McRibs to people who enter its challenge and show the brand their clean-shaven faces, a news release said.
In fact, whether you can grow a face-full of hair or not, you can compete, just by showing what the brand called a "baby-smooth face" via public Twitter or public Instagram profiles, using #Shave4McRibSweepstakes and tagged with @mcdonalds, but no accompanying stories, the brand said. The first 10,000 entries will receive a code for a free McRib, available via McDelivery with Uber Eats, while supplies last.
"Our bearded fans know … facial hair and the McRib just don't mix—believe me, I've tried," David Tovar, vice president of U.S. Communications, said in the release. "With the nationwide return of the McRib, we're helping fans enjoy every delectable moment by encouraging them to shave for a chance to win a free McRib. And we're excited this year to partner with No-Shave November, a charity that knows a thing or two about facial hair."
The brand has also collaborated with the non-profit, No-Shave November, to raise cancer research, prevention and education funds as part of the campaign. Consumers who buy a McRib on Dec. 2 will support McDonald's donation to the organization.
McDonald's, based in Chicago, has 14,000 U.S. restaurants.
