McDonald's global comps up nearly 5 percent

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Global same-store sales for McDonald's Corp. restaurants open at least 13 months increased 4.9 percent in January, the company announced in a news release.
 
Systemwide sales rose 8.3 percent for the month.
 
In the United States, McDonald's comps increased 3.6 percent for the month, largely due to increases in breakfast sales, extended hours and the company's new Snack Wrap menu items.
 
European comps increased 6.8 percent, driven by strong performance in France and Russia, the company said.
 
Comps in Asia/Pacific, Australia, the Middle East and Africa increased 4.3 percent.
