After hiring the creator of Dove's award-winning 'Real Beauty Campaign,' Silvia Lagnado, McDonald's has named former White House press secretary and advisor to President Obama Robert Gibbs as global chief communications officer, the Associated Press reported.

Gibbs will manage communications and government affairs, replacing Bridget Coffing, who will retire this year. Gibbs served as President Obama's first White House press secretary and worked as a senior advisor during the president's re-election campaign, AP said. He also cofounded The Incite Agency, a communications advisory firm.

McDonald's new appointments are part of the company's turnaround plan, which includes restructuring to remove layers of bureaucracy and turning over company-owned stores to franchisees.
