With Wendy's poised to launch its considerable weight back into the first meal of the day, McDonald's said today it's adding chicken to its breakfast menus by introducing McDonald's Chicken McGriddles and McChicken Biscuit breakfast sandwiches as an LTO.

Customers of the giant QSR can get their hands on the two LTOs as early as 6 a.m. every day of the week. The brand said previously these breakfast poultry offerings have only been available to its customers in the Southern U.S., but are now available nationwide.

Chicken McGriddles include griddle cakes with the taste of maple, paired with McChicken, while McChicken Biscuit is a biscuit with McChicken.

"With the nationwide launch of the Chicken McGriddles and McChicken Biscuit sandwiches, we're giving our customers more of what they crave: mouthwatering chicken and breakfast options," Linda VanGosen, McDonald's vice president of Menu Innovation, said in the release. "McDonald's is committed to remaining a leader in the quick-service breakfast category."

Wendy's said last September that it would take another go at the breakfast daypart this year and would hire 20,000 workers to man the POS stations and grills in the early hours. The brand said it was putting some $20 million in the effort, though the exact launch date remains unclear.
