McDonald's McCafé gaining market share
June 17, 2009
The Boston Globe: McDonald's massive marketing campaign for its McCafé specialty coffee line has proven successful. While Starbucks remains the leader, McDonald's continues to gain share from Starbucksas the place most preferred by coffee drinkers. McDonald's also dislodged Dunkin' Donuts from its second-place spot, according to the May 2009 survey by BIG Research of more than 8,000 consumers.
Free trials and slashed prices at both McDonald's and Starbucks in recent months also have put increased pressure on Dunkin' Donuts, marking one of the fiercest stretches in the coffee war.
Correction: A misreading of the initial source led to an incorrect headline that McDonald's was now the coffee share leader. The above headline is more accurate.
