McDonald's net up 24 percent

OAK PARK, Ill. — Global comparable-store sales at McDonald's Corp. increased 7.4 percent for the first quarter ended March 31, the company has announced. Comps rose 2.9 percent in the United States, 11.1 percent in Europe and 9.4 percent in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
Revenues for the quarter were $5.6 billion, up 6 percent compared with revenues of $5.3 billion for the first quarter of 2007. Net income for the quarter was $946.1 million, up 24 percent compared with net income of $762.4 for the 2007 first quarter.
For April, the company is projecting comps to increase 2 percent to 2.5 percent in the U.S., 5.5 percent to 6.5 percent in Europe and 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent for Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
