McDonald's is all about sustainability these days with 99.6% of paper bags, napkins, cup carriers, food wrappers and other fiber-based materials used for paper food packaging being created from recycled or other certified sustainable fiber sources in 2020.
That's a jump from 92% in 2019, according to a Reuters report, citing the brand's 2020 annual sustainability report.
By 2025, the company hopes to have all its customer packaging made from renewable, recycled or certified sources, according to the news report. Right now that figure stands at 80%. McDonald's, which operates more than 39,000 locations, currently uses paper straws and wooded cutlery in some markets and will consider fiber lids and reusable cups in the future.
