McDonald's pares down to single wifi provider

Following a pilot program in four test markets, McDonald's here has officially selected Austin, Texas-based Wayport as its broadband and WiFi service provider. Restaurants in the Seattle, Chicago and New York markets that were testing a different wireless Internet solution will now convert to the same technology.

OAK BROOK, Ill. (April 14, 2004)Following a pilot program in four test markets, McDonald's here has officially selected Austin, Texas-based Wayport as its broadband and WiFi service provider. Restaurants in the Seattle, Chicago and New York markets that were testing a different wireless Internet solution will now convert to the same technology. McDonald's had piloted the solution in and around San Francisco and San Jose, Portland, Boise and Raleigh, allowing customers to access the Internet from their mobile computers via wireless hotspots. "We are extending McDonald's rich history of offering our customers quality food and service, convenience and value that is relevant to their daily lives by adding [this] WiFi service across the U.S.," said Jim Sappington, VP of U.S. IT here at McDonald's. "We want the Golden Arches to be the first choice for a great meal and wireless Internet access."
