McDonald's recalls Shrek glasses in 'abundance of caution'

June 3, 2010

McDonald's is recalling its new Shrek Forever After glasses after deciding they contain too much cancer-causing cadmium for the company's own safety standards, which it calls the "highest in the industry."

A note posted on the company website said customers can find return instruction starting June 8 atwww.mcdonalds.com/glasses, or by calling McDonald's toll-free number at 1-800-244-6227.

From the statement:
The glassware are being voluntarily recalled as a precautionary measure. In light of the CPSC's evolving assessment of standards for cadmium in consumer products, McDonald's determined in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After glassware is appropriate. The glassware was evaluated by an independent third-party laboratory, accredited by the CPSC, and determined to be in compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements at the time of manufacture and distribution.
