McDonald's reports strong Q2 results

OAK BROOK, Ill. — McDonald's Corp. has announced strong operating results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2008, driven by global same-store sales growth of 6.1 percent.
 
According to a press release, McDonald's U.S. reported same-store sales were up 3.4 percent due to its four key-growth strategies of chicken, breakfast, beverages and convenience. In Europe, same-store sales were up 7.4 percent, while same-store sales in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa were up 8.8 percent.
 
The company's revenue for the quarter was $6.1 billion, up 4 percent compared to $5.8 billion in the same quarter last year. Net income for the quarter was $1.2 billion, compared to a recorded loss of $712 million last year, due to the sale of businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean.
 
Year-to-date revenue for the company was $11.7 billion compared to $11.1 billion last year, with net income of $2.1 billion for the six months ending June 30, 2008.
