Right on the heels of a suit filed in Illinois alleging McDonald's doesn't adequately protect its workers from customer violence, another suit — this one a class action against the brand, has been settled this week after a number of California McDonald's employees alleged the company failed to pay them for overtime and other wages due. In the settlement, McDonald's agreed to pay $26 million to settle the action filed by cooks and cashiers in 2013, according to NPR.
The class involved in this action involves many thousands of the brand's workers who said the company arranged shifts to prevent overtime pay and only allowed breaks at the start and end of shifts. Workers also alleged that the company mandated they clean and press uniforms without compensation for maintenance of uniforms damaged under restaurant conditions.
In the settlement, McDonald's denied any wrongdoing.
