McDonald's Shakin' Flavor Fries test underway in Philly market

August 6, 2014

McDonald's restaurants throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region were selected as a test market for the brand’s Shakin’ Flavor Fries, which allows guests to add one of three seasoning flavors to an order of French fries. The flavors include garlic parmesan, spicy Buffalo or zesty ranch.

The test has been underway in select California markets since May.

According to a news release, guests who order the test fries receive an additional bag and seasoning packet of their chosen flavor. Customers  then tear open the packet, pour into the bag as much or as little seasoning as desired and shake up the flavor for what the brand is calling a "fun and interactive experience."

"Our customers love our classic French Fries, so we are excited to offer them the option to fully customize this classic with the seasoning of their choice," John Durante, president, McDonald's Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region Owner/Operator Association, said in the release.

The idea behind this new offering came from seasoned fries in Asia known as Shake Shake, which first debuted in 2005 in Hong Kong before spreading into other countries including China, India and Australia, the release said.
