McDonald's signs golfer Michelle Wie to promote achievement

March 21, 2010

McDonald's USA has launched a new promotional campaign featuring Michelle Wie, one of the world's top golfers. The campaign includes a focus on success and achievement.

The new relationship was announced following the filming of a McDonald's commercial that will feature Wie and a message celebrating success and achievement. The ad campaign will launch in April and will be available in five languages — Cantonese and Mandarin (Chinese), English, Korean and Taglish.

In addition to the commercial, Wie's agreement with McDonald's includes her participation in several McDonald's programs and promotional opportunities focused on educational achievement.

"Michelle Wie is one of the world's most inspiring young athletes. She continues to excel, not just in golf, but also in academics and a number of other endeavors," said Neil Golden, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, McDonald's USA, in a news release. "She is an excellent role model for youth looking to achieve personal success on a number of fronts and as such, will be a tremendous representative for the McDonald's brand and our commitments to education."

Wie, 20, has been the center of attention in the golf world for many years after a prolific amateur career, including her setting a number of records for her accomplishments. She began playing golf at the age of 4 and turned professional in October 2005, just a week shy of her 16th birthday. Represented by IMG, Wie enjoyed a standout rookie season on the LPGA Tour in 2009, finishing 10th on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, earning her first LPGA win at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November, and helping lead the U.S. team to an important Solheim Cup victory over Europe in August.
