McDonald's Corporation announced global comparable sales decreased 1.8 percent in January.
Performance by segment was as follows:
- U.S. up 0.4 percent
- Europe up 0.5 percent
- Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa down 12.6 percent
U.S. comparable sales increased 0.4 percent in January for the company, attributed to the offsetting of positive breakfast daypart performance by the impact of aggressive competitive activity.
Europe's comparable sales increased 0.5 percent in January, attributed to the offset of positive performance in the U.K. and Germany by negative results in France and Russia.
APMEA's comparable sales decreased 12.6 percent in January, accounted for by broad-based consumer perception issues in Japan the impact of the supplier issue and shift in timing of Chinese New Year in China and other markets.
The company experienced strong comparable sales in McDonald's Other Countries & Corporate segment, including Latin America and Canada.
System wide sales for the month decreased 7.9 percent or were relatively flat in constant currencies, the company said.
