McDonald's is celebrating grandmothers this summer with the launch of the limited-edition Grandma McFlurry and a partnership with musical artists, according to a press release.

The Grandma McFlurry, available May 21, features a creamy vanilla soft serve blended with a sweet syrup and chopped candy pieces, reminiscent of treats grandmothers might keep on hand.

"Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they're having a major moment influencing culture — inspiring trends in fashion, decor and now, even food with our newest McFlurry," Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald's, said in the release. "The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we're excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives."

To further connect generations, McDonald's is partnering with singer-songwriter Remi Wolf and Latin Grammy nominee Jay Wheeler to create new versions of classic songs. Wolf will cover "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" and Wheeler will remake "Piel Canela," both available on May 21.

Ahead of the official launch, McDonald's is deploying the Grandma's McFlurry Mobile, an ice cream truck offering free samples in New York City. The truck will visit senior centers and assisted living facilities on May 17 and 18, aiming to create moments of connection between grandparents and their families.

McDonald's will also donate to Little Brothers — Friends of the Elderly, a national organization dedicated to combating isolation and loneliness among older adults.

Fans can track the Grandma's McFlurry Mobile's locations or visit these spots for a chance to try the new dessert:

  • Friday, May 17: Herald Square (corner of W 34th St. and Broadway) from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST.
  • Saturday, May 18: East Harlem (from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. EST) and Flushing (from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST).

Ninety-five percent of McDonald's approximately 13,500 U.S. restaurants are owned and operated by independent business owners.
