The McFlurry spoon is on its last leg. Chicago-based burger chain McDonald's is retiring the dessert spoon in favor of a more sustainable option, according to a CNN report.
Each spoon is used to mix the McFlurry to order, but the brand said it will opt for a reusable spoon that is washed after each use. It's part of McDonald's bid to reduce plastic use. The company announced the "small change will help reduce single-use plastic waste" but won't change the way the popular dessert tastes.
McDonald's pledged in 2018 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its offices and restaurants by 36% by 2030. The brand has tested strawless lids and paper-based Happy Meal toys as part of its pledge.
