McDonald's is bringing back a $5 value meal for a limited time, offering customers a choice of protein, fries, and a drink for a set price, according to a CNBC report.

The promotion, launching June 25, will include a McChicken or McDouble sandwich, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, small fries and a small drink, all for $5. It will run for about a month, according to the news report.

"We know how much it means to our customers when McDonald's offers meaningful value and communicates it through national advertising. That's been true since our very beginning and never more important than it is today," McDonald's said in a statement to CNBC.

The announcement comes on the heels of McDonald's facing challenges attracting customers due to rising menu prices. The company's first-quarter earnings report showed U.S. same-store sales fell short of expectations, despite higher average checks driven by price increases.

"Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day-to-day spending, which is putting pressure on the [QSR] industry," CEO Chris Kempczinski said on the company's earnings call in late April.

The $5 value meal appears to be a response to these concerns. McDonald's partnered with Coca-Cola, which added marketing funds to the promotion, to make the deal more enticing.

""We routinely partner with our customers on marketing programs to meet consumer needs. This helps us grow our businesses together," Coca-Cola said in a statement.

Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
