McDonald's will test its plant-based McPlant burger in eight domestic restaurants in November, according to a company press release.
The McPlant is made from plant-based ingredients like peas, rice and potatoes. The patty is served with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and a slice of American cheese on a sesame seed bun.
As part of its partnership with Beyond Meat, the McPlant burger will launch in the following markets: El Segundo and Manhattan Beach, California; Lake Charles and Jennings, Louisiana; Irving and Carrollton, Texas and Cedar Falls, Iowa. The meatless burger will be available for a limited time, with testing expected to run from Nov. 3 through early December.
The McPlant burger has already been available in some international markets like Sweden, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK. A different plant-based burger was tested in Canada for a short time in September 2019.
The Chicago-based burger brand has been cautious to roll out plant-based products as its competitors race to launch meatless patties like Burger King's Impossible Whopper, which as been on the market for two years, and plant-based chicken nuggets. White Castle launched its Impossible Slider in 2018.
